I am amazed, and apalled to say the least at the tunnel-vision of Republicans. You have a genuine war hero running for president (McCain), and according to your Republican Gods like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity, McCain is slightly more acceptable than pig crap as a choice for president. It didn’t surprise me that they trashed the good name of war hero John Kerry in ‘04 (after all, he is one of those godless socialist Democrats, by golly) but I am mystified why the religious wackos running the Republican Party have such an obvious hate for McCain. Could it be that the chicken hawks that make up Georgie’s administration don’t want their draft-dodging, National Guard joining-to-escape-combat record of “service” to be compared to McCain’s? Hmm. Could it be that McCain is just a little too reasonable and middle of the road for the extreme right to handle? After all, with McCain in office, how are these phony patriots going to continue to scare the public into giving up their constitutional rights in the name of “National Security”? I’ll tell you, so many of these armchair patriots (like his highness Rush) hate McCain so much, I’m seriously thinking of voting for him. If he hadn’t promised to keep us at war for the next 100 years (and in our economic decline, which is directly related to the billions of taxpayer’s dollars wasted on Georgie’s Iraq adventure) I would be casting my vote for him. Could it be that a lot of moderate Republicans are sick and tired of these religious hypocrites dictating everything that goes on in the Republican Party? I hope so! I also hope that moderate Republicans will try to overcome their ingrained reticence to vote for a black man and consider Barack Obama. This guy actually has a brain, and can articulate what he wants to do in a speech without stumbling over every statement and making incredibly stupid errors like “nuclear power pants” (an actual quote of Georgie’s). I, for one, wish that Georgie would put his nuclear power pants on and fly somewhere far away, so that people that actually care about this country (like Obama) can try to repair the damage that his incompetent administration has inflicted on this country.

Our basic freedoms are at risk. For 35 years we have let our politicians pander to the environmental extremists. I think it’s time to drill for some oil.
Things we must do:
1. Open drilling to all economically feasible sites that can be ecologically protected.
2. Build new refineries. No new refineries have been constructed in the US in 30 years.
3. Build new Nuclear power plants. The rest of the world is ahead of the US on this.
4. Open lands to shale oil production in the US.
5. Get rid of any politician that doesnt work towards the goal of energy independence.

The US trade deficit for oil in March was $24.6 billion dollars. We are financing the terror war against us. We are a capatilist Nation with the best enviromental technology in human history under our belts. It is time to tell Washington to get it done or get out!

Fish And Wildlife Service Announces Removal Of
Federal Protections For Yellowstone’s Grizzly Bears

Plus: The National Park Service Turns 100 in 2016.
Help Them Prepare!

After three decades of Endangered Species Act protections, today the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced it is removing the Yellowstone grizzly bear population from its status as “threatened” on the U.S. list of threatened and endangered species.

Grizzly bears have made remarkable progress since wavering on the brink of extinction a mere 30 years ago due solely to the protections afforded by the federal government. The good work of the federal agency’s endangered species success story will not be allowed to continue, however, if the final delisting decision has not resolved on-going threats to long-term population survival.

If the decision was based on the draft plan, three issues that needed to be addressed are:

1. No hard and fast enforcement standards. The draft plan relied on enforceable habitat standards on the national forests when the U.S. Forest Service has just adopted a new forest plan rule that says there are no forest plan standards, just guidelines.

2. No formal monitoring of food sources. The draft admitted there is a long-term concern with bear food sources because of disease (white bark pine blister rust) and climate (army cutworm moth sites being lost), but has no standards for monitoring food sources or plan for what to do about them if they are lost.

3. No funding source for future monitoring. The draft acknowledges that post-delisting, federal and state agencies will need to make additional financial commitments to monitor habitat, population numbers, and other bear factors. But, there has been no commitment from any agencies to provide the money. All the monitoring promises could become hollow promises with no funding to allow action.

This approach simply will not work for a species that is the second slowest reproducing mammal in North America, and one that is very dependent on large areas of secure habitat.

We need to be particularly careful with the future of grizzly bears. While federal and state agencies have done a commendable job of recovering bears over the last 30 years, there will be a natural tendency—if delisted—to declare victory, move on to other issues, and forget about the great bear. We must have an enforceable plan, with clear standards, and secure funding. Without these three critical components, we cannot take the risk of delisting.

Notification of the delisting of the Yellowstone population of grizzly bears will be published in the Federal Register in the near future. Once we have the opportunity to analyze the final plan, we will provide you with our comments and action, if any.
